Is AT&T Afraid of the Verizon iPhone?

The begin of the Verizon iPhone is presently a few weeks away but AT&T is still liability what it can to keep clientels on their system — and import iPhones.

With rumors of enhanced data sketch pricing and a more steady voice system, many accessible iPhone owners are contemplating a system switch.

Now that AT&T has to allocate the iPhone spotlight in the US, the nation’s second-largest cell phone operator is trying to distinguish itself from the new opposition.

AT&T sent e-mails to various of its mobile clientels (including me) Tuesday promotion the $49 iPhone 3GS. AT&T lowered the cost on the iPhone 3GS previous this month, just ahead of the Verizon iPhone statement.

Interpretation the promotion’s ad print, we had to quiet laughter because AT&T is using words that is similar to Verizon’s new promotion for the iPhone. Deliberate or not, the opening salvo, “it’s the instant you’ve been waiting for,” reads as a direct reply to Verizon’s memo, “it begins.”

The more straight reply to Verizon comes a bit later on in the ad. In big, bolded form, AT&T points out that it is “the ONLY system that allows you to chat & surf on your iPhone at the similar time.”

Touché. The ability to send voice and data at the same time over the 3G system is one of the only scientific differences among the iPhone on AT&T and Verizon. It makes logic that AT&T is promoting this benefit.

By focusing on lower-priced phone options and synchronized voice and data, perhaps AT&T can keep accessible customers happy (or at least happy enough to renew for another two years) and missing from Big Red.

Honestly, we think the real test for AT&T won’t be on February 10 but this summer, when the next age group iPhone is expected to ground on both carriers at the equal time.
