Rehman, Mirza disown Orangi operation

KARACHI: Federal and provincial interior ministers have disowned the Orangi Town operation conducted by the Rangers on Tuesday, Geo News reported Thursday.

The PPP government and the party ran into serious trouble on Thursday when Sindh Interior Minister Zulfikar Mirza came out openly against the Federal government, saying he was totally ignored in the Rangers operations in Orangi Town.

Mirza, who had been silenced some days back by President Asif Zardari, told the Sindh Assembly today that he and as well as Sindh CM had no clue of any operation in Orangi Town.

On the other hand Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik who came back to Karachi today also expressed ignorance about the crackdown, saying it was an administrative mistake. Next time the CM and the interior minister would be taken into confidence, he said. However, he pointed out that the Rangers had powers for such an action.

The federal minister also denied reports about raid on house of PPP leader Nabeel Gabol.
