Bassist was lately identified with lung cancer.
TV On The Radio bassist Gerard Smith deceased Wednesday (April 20) at age 34 after his engagement with lung cancer, the band advertised on its website.
"We are very gloomy to advertise the death of our beloved acquaintance and bandmate, Gerard Smith, subsequent a gallant conflict in resistance to lung cancer," the band's assertion reads. "Gerard passed away the early of April 20th, 2011. We will omit him terribly."
Smith's death draws close just over a month after it was advertised that he was fighting cancer; video on the Radio had just concluded transcription assemblies for their current album, Nine Types of Light. At the time, the band said that while Smith would not be competent to join in the approaching expedition, they were optimistic that he would be competent to conflict the illness wholly, citing agreeing effects from therapy and Smith's "legendarily willful disposition" as justifications for their confident outlook.
Smith had been in the band since 2005 and was a provider to their third and fourth albums, the acclaimed 2006 effort Return to Cookie Mountainand 2008's Dear Science. The gathering has canceled its musical issues for the next small number days, commencing Wednesday in Detroit. According to their website, the band will distribute more knowledge when it becomes available.
Nine Types of Light, which has been accepting many re-evaluates since its distribute last week, labels a revisit to achievement for the untested rock gathering, which announced a yearlong hiatus in late 2009 in rank to decompress from close to a year on the thoroughfare promoting Science.
